Survival Course (サバイバルコース) is a game mechanic added in maimai MiLK and removed in maimai FiNALE. It can be considered a combination of earlier mechanics Challenge Track and Event Course.

Survival Course can only be selected at Track 1. Each course consists of 4 songs regardless of the arcade's settings, and has its own configuration of max value and increment/decrement of Life.

The 1st~3rd songs in a course are randomly chosen among a song pool that differs in each course. The same song may be chosen twice or thrice.

The player starts with maximum Life. If the player completes the course, he/she can get a reward.

Similar to Challenge Track, in single player mode, if Life reaches 0, it would be a game over, and the song would be cut short.

In multiplayer mode, as long as not all players failed, players could still play after the current song (which would still be cut short) if they failed, and start the next song with 0 Life, but without sound effects, and all notes would be considered Misses, similar to how DanceDanceRevolution lets players play until the end of the song (in certain configurations) even if the life bar is depleted.

maimai MiLK PLUS

In MiLK PLUS, each course has 4 difficulties, from Advanced to Re:Master. For Advanced and Expert, the corresponding difficulty for the chosen songs is played. For Master and Re:Master, it's instead separated by difficulty. The Master difficulty contains level 12+ or lower charts, and the Re:Master difficulty contains level 12 or higher songs. When playing with multiple players, all players must choose the same difficulty.

Each course has a theme of one major version, symbolized by one of the 6 characters that has the corresponding color. The 4th song, which is the song that has the new Re:Master chart, is a boss song from that version. The Re:Master charts for these songs could only be unlocked by completing these courses on the Re:Master difficulty, and cannot be unlocked by the conventional means (getting Rank S or above on Expert or higher).
