2013年10月、『maimai GreeN』の最高難易度曲(=ボス曲)として追加されたナンバーの一つ。プレイするには当時最高額となる100,000maimileで購入でき、EXPERT、MASTERで共に高い難易度を誇ります。

作曲を担当したのはJimmy Wecklさん。「System “Z”」も金管楽器奏者でもあり、ギタリストでもあるJimmy Wecklさんの個性を発揮した、スタイリッシュなフュージョンミュージックになっています。軽快なドラミングから始まるこの曲は、複雑なリズムにのせて、スピーディなギターフレーズを変拍子の細かいブレイクで繋いでいく、テクニカルな展開が特徵です。

サステインとディレイの効いた爽やかなギターサウンドを、ハイスピードなシンセサイザーフレーズと、軽やかなドラミングで盛り立てています。

様々に表情を変えながら展開していくPV映像も、楽曲へも没入感を高め、プレイヤーに音楽との一体感を感じさせてくれるのも大きな魅力。めくるめく疾走感はドライブのお伴にもお勧めです。

最終システムというイメージで作曲しました。集中制御室のような多数の計器類や表示に囲まれたような場所でスマートにそれらをコントロールするイメージですね。なんとなく複雑なリズムにトリッキーな仕掛けも要所要所に織り交ぜて表現してみました。

このあたりは実はワタクシの得意とするところでありまして(笑)作曲者の個人的な楽しみやら趣向やらが色濃く出ているかと思っています。こういうの作っていると楽しくて結構いろんなパターンが浮かんできて楽しくてついついいろんな要素を詰め込みたくなるのですが、そこは楽曲の時間も限られているので、抑えめにして…。

ただ、中がややこしい分、休憩地帶といいますか、構成の切れ目をはっきりさせようという事は心がけました。そして、その構成の継ぎめで結構試行錯誤を繰り返しました。自分で仕掛けた罠にハマる好例ですね。

あ…、発音は是非システムゼットではなく「システムズィー」と呼んでいただく感じでお願いしますね。
