maimai DX:KALEIDXSCOPE

KALEIDXSCOPE (stylized as KALEID×SCOPE) is a game mode serving as a mechanic to unlock exclusive songs added in maimai でらっくす PRiSM at launch, working similarly as maimai MiLK's Survival Course, and serves as a successor to maimai FiNALE's PANDORA BOXXX.

The mode was added on September 12th, 2024 for the Japan version and January 16th, 2025 for the Asian version.

General Information

Note that the following information is based on current observations, and may change once new information is known.

After reaching the end of an original Area, the player may encounter a locked "gate" that requires a matching "key" to unlock. After this happens for the first time, the KALEIDXSCOPE game mode will appear in the mode select screen starting from the next credit, though it will be grayed out and cannot be entered until at least one key is found.

Special conditions must be fulfilled to obtain keys. After said conditions are met, a notice will be displayed at the end of the credit, confirming that a key has been obtained. Keys can be obtained even if their gates have not yet been discovered.

After finding at least one key, the game mode becomes selectable. A warning will be displayed and the player will be asked to confirm before entering the mode.

Mechanics

Each of the 6 gates corresponds to an original Area within the in-game universe. Selecting a gate after unlocking it with its matching key will start its corresponding 3-track course.

If only one of two players on the same cabinet has found both the gate and the key, the other player will still be able to play the course, but will not unlock the song, nor will the course be marked as cleared afterwards.
If there are no playable courses upon entering the mode, the game will start on Normal mode instead.

The courses follow the following rules:

A life system is used, where each non-Perfect judgment decreases life by 1. There are no life bonuses between tracks, and the game ends instantly upon running out of life.
- Unlike Grade Certification's "true grade" courses, a player who ran out of life in multiplayer mode will not be able to continue playing if the other player has not failed.
- Using TRACK SKIP fails the course instantly.
Only difficulties at or above the current unlock threshold can be selected. The difficulty is selected before the first track, and all 3 tracks must be played on the same difficulty.
Life amounts and difficulty thresholds are relaxed based on the number of players who have cleared a course in the Japan version, and based on the number of days since the course's release in the Asian version. Life and difficulty levels are listed below, along with their required number of clears/days since release.
- The current amount of life is displayed before entering a course.
- Conditions are updated every day at 4:00 AM JST.

After a course is cleared, its exclusive song will be unlocked, along with the gate's "fragment".
- Each course's leaderboard (up to 500 clears) and current conditions (including the number of clears needed for/days until next condition relaxation) can be viewed on maimai DX NET.
- All cleared courses are displayed on KALEIDXSCOPE's mode select graphic.
