KING of Performai is a national tournament of SEGA music games, first held in 2019.

2019

Official website

Only maimai でらっくす participated in the 2019 tournament. However, ZENZA of Performai, an exhibition match of CHUNITHM and オンゲキ, was held between the qualifying round and semi-final at JAEPO 2020.

Entry

Time period: September 18th 12:00 ~ October 29th 22:59

For entry, players should choose the area of Japan they're participating in on maimaiでらっくすNET, and then play the three specified songs in the same credit, saving the results to the server.

Online preliminaries

Time period: September 27th 10:00 ~ October 29th 23:59

Ranking

Songs:

In the total achievement rate ranking of the three specified songs, the top 32 contestants in each area would be eligible for the area tournament. Results would count towards the contestant's selected area when played in any arcade in Japan, even if the arcade is not in said area. However, results would only count when the 3 specified songs are played together in the same credit, in any order. When multiple contestants have the same total score, the contestant who submitted the score first takes precedence.

All participating players would earn the title "チャレンジしたぜ KING of Performai 2019". The top 32 contestants would earn a special title.

Area tournament

2020

Official website

This tournament was held between maimai でらっくす Splash, CHUNITHM PARADISE, and オンゲキ R.E.D.. The format was heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the tournament being held as a live stream and players outside of the Greater Tokyo area being located in their local arcades. Additionally, the "final" songs - these being BREaK! BREaK! BREaK!, ANU, and Viyella's Scream - were given as exhibition songs and not competitive.

During the final event, maimai でらっくす Splash PLUS and オンゲキ R.E.D. PLUS were both announced.

オンゲキ

Entry

Time period: September 15th 20:00 ~ October 27th 23:59

For entry, players should choose the area of Japan they're participating in on オンゲキ-NET.

Online preliminaries

Time period: October 1st 7:00 ~ October 28th 23:59

Ranking

Songs:

In the total score ranking of the three specified songs, the top 8 contestants in each area (east Japan, west Japan) would be eligible for the area tournament. Results would count towards the contestant's selected area when played in any arcade in Japan, even if the arcade is not in said area.

All players who cleared the event chapter would earn the title "参加したぜ KING of Performai 2020". Those who are eligible for the area tournament would earn a special title.

Both TECHNICAL SCORE (T-SCORE) and PLATINUM SCORE (P-SCORE) are recorded, and the ranking is determined according to the following rules:

  • The player with a higher total T-SCORE has a higher ranking.
  • For players with the same total T-SCORE, the player with a higher total P-SCORE has a higher ranking.
  • For players with the same total T-SCORE and total P-SCORE, the player who got the T-SCORE first has a higher ranking.
  • The time recorded is only updated when the player gets a higher T-SCORE. (If only P-SCORE is higher, the time would not be updated)

SEGA originally considered holding two tournaments, one for each area, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, contestants from both areas were to go to SEGA's main company building in Ōsaki, Tokyo, and no audiences were allowed into the building.

The contestants are divided into two groups of two based on their rankings in the online preliminaries. Each contestant chooses a song from the song pool below, and each group plays the two songs, competing with the total TECHNICAL SCORE. The song to be played for the finals is also decided by the player beforehand, along with the aforementioned two songs. The same song cannot be chosen twice by the same player.

  • If two players got the same total TECHNICAL SCORE, the player with a higher number of CRITICAL BREAKs win.
  • If the number of CRITICAL BREAKs is also the same, the player with a higher number of BREAKs win.
  • If the number of BREAKs is also the same, the player with a higher number of HITs win.
  • If the number of HITs are also the same, the staff would choose another song in the song pool for the players to compete again.

The two best players from each area (a total of 4 players) are eligible for the final tournament.
