where did you find these high res images? They look suspiciously upscaled --totally not by MENDES (talk) 16:18, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
Hi. This website grabs them directly from iTunes/Apple Music servers.
If you search for the song's (not always a single; it may be an album like in the case of MKDR's jacket being from GHOST by DECO*27) title in the server corresponding to the Apple Music site of the country you found the jacket on Apple Music, there will be links to standard and uncompressed resolutions of some of these song jackets (obvious exclusions being most maimai originals or jackets specifically altered for game release such as Idol or Zenzenzense [although the old one for the latter is still findable with this tool]).
Alternatively, I pasted the Apple Music links directly into this tool from the same developer as the first tool where the first could not find artwork from any server, such as Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu (which I searched the Japanese servers for as well as my own countries' - even spelling it syouthitsu like its literal "official romanized" release title returned no response). With Photoshop, I converted any that were originally jpgs to png, and reduced either the file size (which I did for about half) or dimensions (so far I have only had to do this with Igaku which was 6000x6000).
I assure you these images are not upscaled and I was following what I interpreted in the content policy which says
>>>[the song jackets] should be at in-game resolution or better (if you can find a larger image that is otherwise exactly identical to the in-game image).
so I was thinking any findable original resolution jackets could be uploaded to the wiki this way.
Please let me know if I should stop this (e.g., consistency, storage, "copyright/fair use" issues or otherwise). --Hoyuten (talk) 00:23, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
I have been uploading jackets for a while, and as Apple Music provides 3000x3000 sized jackets it doesn't mean these jackets are not upscaled as the jacket is smaller than that size usually (e.g. maimai original jackets are often 1050x1050 or 1080x1080)
there are cases where the 3000x3000 jackets looks worse than clean images (for instance the EmpErroR which has details lost).
i wish if you were doing the uploads at least follow the following:
- dont upload 3000x3000 jackets; size them at 1000x1000 as they are unnecessarily big
- still upload things but check if the image on streaming platform is not a square (e.g. 1000x998, sometimes they do that) or is blatantly upscaled (emperror case)
a much better alternative lives at https://covers.musichoarders.xyz/ searchable multiplatform, and i think this are much better to work with (i.e. provides png
and then you can size it down to 1000x1000) - from User:Mantou1233 (talk) without the BLeSS 10:28, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Dang this site is actually so much more useful and convenient, thank you for providing it. i will take your advice into consideration for future contributions ——Hoyuten (worst 15k) (talk) 11:12, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
