CHUNITHM Character Universes
Each of CHUNITHM's characters, and the songs that accompany them, belongs to one of several universes. Songs from the same universe are grouped together on CHUNITHM's mini-soundtracks, and share the same background during play. In total, eight original character universes in CHUNITHM are known (excluding Irodorimidori).
SeelischTact
Debuted in the original CHUNITHM. The characters are themed as characters in a fantasy RPG. The STORY of all characters forms one whole story.
Musically, it features several artists that have composed for RPG games by Square Enix.
No new characters in this universe have appeared since the original CHUNITHM, and the only new songs that have appeared are contest songs with reused characters.
Plot
The green earth and perishing civilizations reside on the continent of Emarg.
The imperial army wants to acquire the great power of the ancient civilization, which brought it into a conflict with the states that wish for peace. This conflict signals a war never before seen.
With war looming over the continent, a boy named Shizuma Kurosaki, who suddenly appeared in the northern village of Lent, guided by the ancient sword Seelisch Tact that he obtained by chance, is determined to pursue his roots and fight the imperial army.

Debuted in the original CHUNITHM. Characters in this universe are predominantly female.
The songs associated with this universe predominantly feature female vocals. Pop-like music and denpa is common.

Debuted in the original CHUNITHM. These characters largely have little relation between each other.
The only major connecting factor between music in this universe is that it is largely composed by VOCALOID producers.

Genesis Of Destiny
Debuted in the original CHUNITHM. The majority of characters part of this universe are instrumentalists and are shown with instruments in their image.
Songs associated with this universe all feature non-synthesised instruments, particularly guitars.

Metaverse
Debuted in the original CHUNITHM. The story of this universe centres around a virtual world of the same name which faces a number of threats. One quirk of this universe is that all character ages are expressed in cycles, where 1 cycle = 1 day.
Following the events of CHUNITHM CRYSTAL PLUS, all new Metaverse songs starting in CHUNITHM PARADISE use a different background. The continuing story of Metaverse focuses on the world after humanity's annihilation.
The music of this universe is mostly electronic and club music. Songs associated with this universe tend to have harder charts than most; until Rebellion, all songs that debuted with Level 14 charts (not songs that were re-rated) originated in this universe.

Animalia
Debuted in CHUNITHM STAR PLUS. This universe is made up of humanoid talking animals that all live together.
The music associated with this universe is modern electronic music, particularly future bass.

Sybula seireiki (シビュラ精霊記)
Debuted in CHUNITHM CRYSTAL. Another fantasy-themed universe which has been noted among fans as being much darker than other universes, to the point that it's included on the "words that you must not search" wiki.
Music featured in this universe is mostly composed by non-Japanese artists. Interestingly, this universe was announced a week after the overseas versions of CHUNITHM (CHUNITHM SUPER STAR) was announced. All songs in this universe have a naming convention, having both a two-kanji Japanese title and an English title.

Debuted in CHUNITHM PARADISE LOST. The only "original" CHUNITHM universe featuring non-original characters; these being Virtual YouTubers who provided the vocals to the songs.
